Firefly: Favourite Mistakes - September 26th 2009
In order to get yourself set up with a character for Firefly: Favourite Mistakes, take a look at the list below and make note of what appeals to you. Send us your top three picks - you can send them in order of preference if you wish to, but do not have to(indicate if your picks are indeed in your prefered order). We'll then assign a character to you on the basis of your preferences and our needs. Assignment isn't strictly first-come, first-served, but earlier submissions will get preference over later ones. Characters that already have a player listed next to them are already taken, and are not available to be assigned anymore.
We will not be accepting any more submission of concepts from here on in - take a look at the list, see what you like, but we won't generally do custom jobs at this point. There are a few people who got us in such requests earlier and all the details haven't been sorted out yet, and such is fine, though you may need to remind us about such.
Send your top three picks to firefly.boomtown@gmail.com.

| Player | Character Description | ||
| Sheriff "Mad" Tam Black | Jeremy C. | Only recently appointed to Sheriff after the disappearance of the former one, Mad Tam is polite, reasonable, and a crack shot who has no qualms about dropping anyone who is a threat to law and order. Rumour is that he was once a quiet Alliance accounts clerk on a Rim planet, but that after being the sole survivor of two separate Reaver attacks he became obsessed with defending honest folk from the ravages of the frontier. He doesn't have any formal authority on the Docks, but that doesn't always stop him, either. | |
| Governor Lincoln Dawkins | Kurt T. | A retired Alliance Admiral, he has accepted a civilian posting as the Alliance Governor of Paquin responsible both for the planet's rebuilding and ensuring it is ruled in keeping with the Constitution of the Alliance. He also has a taste for excitement, and it is thanks to Governor Dawkins' generosity(mostly of the "forcing the law to look the other way" variety) that the Paquin tournement occurs. | |
| Patricia Bane | Lex R. | Governor Dawkins' tireless assistant, Pat got the job after the previous holder of the position ate a bullet while cleaning his gun. Clearly, the position is not without its stress. Normally quiet and dangerously efficient, she quickly becomes more aggressive if someone gets in Governor Dawkins' face. She may be a bureaucrat now, but that probably wasn't how she started off on her career path. | |
| Lord Richard Shikai | Chris F. | An officer and a gentleman from Alliance-loyal Persephone, he gained his fame(or infamy, if you ask any who fought for the Independents) in the Battle over Shadow. This retired Admiral has settled down and is the mayor of Boomtown, the town nearest to the Paquin Docks. | |
| Kai Bayko | Sasha | Kai was too young to fight in the Unification War, and, always an idealist, actually though the Alliance might be a good thing for the border planets. He went to the academy in Londinium, and is currently serving as an agent for the Ministry of the Interior. He has been assigned to his home planet of Paquin upon his own request. | |
| Sergeant Ameri Hawkes | Anne H. | Sgt Hawkes is a recruiter for the Alliance military, and his smooth words and brotherly demeanor have made him good at his job. Parliment is pushing to increase the number of recruits from former Independent worlds, trying to more tightly integrate them with the whole, and Ameri has been doing his best to make that happen on Paquin. | |
| Commander Regan Aisenyev | Gordon J. | Commander Aisenyev is currently in command of the Alliance cruiser the IAV Dortmunder, which is currently stationed nearby Paquin - its proximity is the only reason Regan even considered taking brief leave to attend the festivities. | |
| Lieutenant Melissa Fang | Kitty G. | In charge of the "Fed Squad" of Alliance troopers stationed in the Boomtown docks, and who also add some additional security to the Deep Earth Paquin mine which is a vital supply of rare earths to the Alliance. Tends to push her weight around a bit, although she can only constitutionally deploy any of her command when acting either on federal business, in a state of emergency, or when civilian authorities request assistance. Since the Sheriff doesn't much like her, those requests for assistance don't come very often. | |
| Major Dan Bellephron | Tyler B. | One of Paquin's sectional security officers, responsible for security of Alliance property as well as deployment of Alliance troopers during times of emergency or unrest. His jurisdiction includes the portion of the moon that the Docks is in, and he is respected for his honesty by the Sheriff and Mayor even as at the same time he is disliked for being a by-the-book hardass. | |
| Private Adele Hsou | ***Available*** | A new recruit just out of basic, Private Hsou is working under Lieutenant Fang's security detail. She supposedly from a wealthy Sihnon family, and some wonder why she didn't apply for a commission and enter the service as an officer. | |
| Private Nora Rivera | Michele C. | A veteran of the unification war, Private Rivera has been promoted and demoted more times than she can count. She's utterly fearless, and that is part of the problem. She's currently working for the Customs detachement here on Paquin, a post she clearly believes is beneath her abilities. | |
| Sergant Larry Grego | Trent R. | Long-suffering Sergeant Grego is older than his commanding officer Lt Fang by more than a few years, but seems content with his lot in life as a grunt. He isn't exactly lazy, but he is cautious - he cares more about not leaving a widow behind than he does about glory and promotions. | |
| Major Kikue Salazar | Chelsea A. | Major Salazar is the Alliance officer in charge of customs at the spaceport. She often clashes with Bellephron - Bellephron is in charge of maintaining law and order in this section of Paquin, but Salazar is in charge screening and regulating what goes on and off Paquin from the Docks. The two clearly don't like each other, and Salazar's larger than life personality makes for a sharp contrast with the by-the-book Bellephron. | |
| Corporal Colbey Tsai | Aaron K. | One of Major Bellephron's communication's officers, Corporal Tsai is quietly efficient - not the stereotypical gung ho military type, but very smart and technically adept. Though appearing bookish, Corporal Tsai is more socially adept than many assume him to be. He isn't technically on duty today, and is considering trying to get into the tournament. | |
| Private Ziyad Jarvis | Paul S | Another one of Fang's security detail, Jarvis is the practical joker of the unit. It doesn't always make him popular with his commanding officers, but his easy smile and devil-may-care attitude makes him popular about town and with many of his fellow soldiers. Given a choice, he's probably the first Alliance soldier most of the townsfolk would prefer to talk to, if they have to talk to any at all. | |
| Vernon Bayne | Dave S. | Vernon Bayne is a true frontiersman - his ranch is in the middle of a mostly unsettled continent on Paquin, and he's set up a nice little empire out there in the middle of nowhere. He only makes the long convoy into town about twice a year, but when he does he drives a very impressive herd to market. Shrewd businessman, doesn't say much, but is always thinking. | |
| Cassandra Horowitz | Mana A. | Hard-edged and brutal local businesswoman who is heavily involved in shipping and warehousing at the Docks. Her husband Jonah was arrested a few months ago on smuggling charges, confirming rumours of their involvement in smuggling and fencing of stolen goods. She's now trying to run the "business" by herself, and is showing the signs of stress. | |
| Michael Stewart | Jon A. | A warehouse manager who works for Horowitz, Stewart is savvy and cunning. He is fiercely protective of his employees and of the permenenat residence of the Docks, even as he is widely suspected of being part of the Horowitz criminal outfit. | |
| Ann Shao | ***Available*** | Ann grew up on a Paquin ranch that was destroyed in the early days of the Unification War. She had a hard time finding a place for herself after the peace, but was taken in by Jonah Horowitz and given a way to earn a living. She obviously resented Jonah though, and appears a little bit more at peace working in the business now that he is away in prison and his wife, Cassandra, is now in charge. Ann's an odd combination of proud as hell and beaten down enough to know when to keep her head low, but she usually gives as good as she gets in any dust-up. | |
| Tian Hsu | Jennifer L. | Well-spoken and polite, Tian moved to Paquin almost a year ago. He's been buying up some local businesses, and seems to have access to outside money. He is well-protected by his 'boys', and rumours of underworld connections abound. | |
| Kristy Liu | Anita A. | The most feared of Tian Hsu's "boys" is a woman - Kristy Liu. She may not be as big or imposing as the rest of Hsu's muscle, and normally is quiet and polite. But she she escalates a situation, she does it very quickly, and very violently. | |
| Kane MacAvoy | Adam | A manager for the Deep Earth Paquin Co mine near Boomtown. Fought with the Browncoats during the Unification War, and holds his uncle Algernon's push for Paquin to surrender early against him to this day. Not exactly shy about letting his dislike of the Alliance be known. | |
| Horatio "Doc" Carlisle | Brad W. | Horatio was halfway through a medical degree at school on Osiris when the Unification War started to break out - he abandoned his studies to return home and assist the Independent cause as a medic, and to keep an eye on his kid sister Helene. He's since set up shop as the closest thing the area has to a doctor. | |
| Chan Lee | Carrie S. | She left Paquin shortly after Xiquon, her husband, died. Was close friends with Elizabeth MacAvoy. She is Liang's mother. She has only returned within the past year, supposedly to visit her son's family and see her grandchildren now that they are all grown up. | |
| Tasha MacAvoy | Cori M. | Had a reputation as a hellraiser when she was younger, but has settled down over recent years, especially since she met and fell in love with Paquin's dashing military commander, Lord Richard - their marriage was the social event of the season last year. | |
| Casper Lee | Emmanuel Z. | Son of a local rancher, Liang helps out on his dad's ranch, but most figure he has other more lucrative side jobs too. Just returned to Paquin three years ago after being held for terrorism-related charges stemming from actions taken after the official end of the Unification War. | |
| Allison Roe | Gayle C. | Like many of the workers at the Deep Earth Paquin mine, Alison lived a better life before the Unification War and blames her days of toil behind a computerized digger far beneath the earth on the Alliance. She's not one to lose her spirit though, and every night up on the surface she is rapidly blowing away her paycheck partying and has occasionally been the topic of gossip in town. Not so secretly she hopes to find a way out before her youth, her looks, and her will to fight for something better finally leave her. | |
| Sarah Lee | Jackie C. | The youngest of the Lee family was too young to fight for the Browncoats during the Unification war, and given the number of dustups the young woman gets involved in she seems to regret her "missing out" on the war. | |
| DeWitt Lee | Josh C. | Tabitha's son, Dewitt was crippled fighting the Alliance early during the Unification War. He still seems to get around fine and some say the damage was more to his ego than his body; the fact remains that he hasn't really worked since the war except for a little bit of helping out on the Lee ranch, and has gotten steadily more bitter. | |
| Shen Garrett | Serena W. | Tasha MacAvoy's older sister, who works as a chemical engineer at her father's refinery. Married to Sean Garret, who used to be Boomtown's Sheriff until he skipped town last year. | |
| Bao Schumans | Hadley S. | The Schumans brothers are thugs, and pretty much everyone in the Docks knows it. They've both done some federal time, but never on anything big enough to put them away for good. Bao is what passes for the brains of the pair. | |
| Doug Schumans | Matt L. | The second of the Schumans brothers, Doug isn't as clever as his brother but is somewhat more pleasant to deal with. He'll still break bones if someone crosses the pair, and is perhaps more feared, but people seem to believe he might actually be a nice kid underneath if not for Bao. | |
| Kelly Lofgren | Danielle G. | Owner of Kelly's Saloon. He's been through some hard times, and it shows, but thus far has managed to stick it out. The tournements always bring a lot of business through the door, but half the time the damage done to the property turns it into a loss anyway. | |
| Rachel Maurer | Shelly A. | Long-suffering barmaid at Kelly's Saloon. She's relatively sophisticated and thus doesn't always seem to fit into Kelly's ambiance, and has been slowly but surely trying to class up the place. | |
| Emma Frost | Janet M. | Widowed and shamed when her husband died not long after he murdered his mistress, all at a large public event. Bitter, and eager to get off Paquin. | |
| Simone Jasper | Dina Z. | The owner of the Jasper Hotel sees herself as one of the few bastions of civilization on the border. She tries to give her guests a taste of polite society before they head out to their business on the Rim. She seems to have propsered where Kelly has had problems staying afloat - some attribute to her success to her willingness to work with organized crime. | |
| Channa Shadilya | Rhea L. | A young Companion who has just recently finished her training. Despite her beauty, she is rumoured to have had problems getting and keeping clients, which would explain why she is so far out from the Core. | |
| Jedidiah Crowe | Scott C. | A hermit with a shack out by the Deep Earth Paquin Co mine near Boomtown. Fought with the Browncoats during the Unification War under Kane MacAvoy. Local mechanic and inventor and is employed at the Mine. | |
| Victor Chappel | Stephen E. | A local rancher who fought with the Independents back in the day, Victor is in town looking to spectate the tourney, treat his wife to a night in the Jasper Hotel and see if any hired hands are looking for work. | |
| Nancy Chappel | Chelsey S. | Victor's wife Nancy has a taste for the finer things in life, and isn't always the best suited to life on a ranch. She is looking forward to a night of luxury and civilization. | |
| Miriam Vauchon | Christina R. | A representative of Blue Sun, Miriam is a scientist by training but a businesswoman by calling. She's been assigned to help the less technically inclined Kal Wells exploit the potential of the Deep Earth Paquin mine. | |
| Fleur Logan | Anna G. | Fleur supposedly lost her parents sometime during the Unification War, or at least that is what her and her brother Angelo said when they came to the Paquin Docks. Cheerful and seemingly innocent, she is too often dependent upon the kindness of strangers - the locals know she is more dangerous than she lets on, but there are enough new faces passing through each day that she doesn't have to worry about appeasing the locals. | |
| Angelo Logan | ***Available*** | Angelo is very protective of his sister, Fleur - as he explains it, each other is all they have left after losing their parents during the Unification War. Angelo does what odd jobs he can to survive. Angelo and his sister don't live extravagantly, but they both have a natural charm that makes life easier for them than it would for most uneducated transplants. | |
| Lian Waterbury | Aulden F. | One of Tian Hsu's boys, Lian is muscle but he is generally pretty likable despite being a hired thug. He drinks pretty heavily, which sometimes gets him in trouble, but luckily he is a jolly drunk and is generally more amusing than anything when he gets in his cups. He's also generous with his money, and that has earned him a fair number of friends. | |
| Jose Laurie | Fabian D. | With a sharp temper and a mean streak a mile wide, it isn't surprising that Jose has fallen in with Horowitz's operation. Not the biggest or the toughest, Jose is still regarded with a measure of fear due to his unpredictability. This seems strange when taken with the fact that his day job is as Horowitz's account, at least until one remembers that Jose is also in charge of keeping track of who owes Horowitz money... | |
| Cherry Ellis | Jeanne-Marie A. | Cherry's folks have a prosperous ranch on Paquin, but Cherry lusted for a life a touch more adventurous and that is what made her end up working at Kelly's Saloon, which is clearly just a stepping stone to bigger and more exciting things in the future. She likes seeing all the off-world traffic coming through, and fantasizes about leaving the planet for good some day too. Despite the fact that she has been at Kelly's for longer, she has found both the boys and Kelly seem to prefer the other saloon girl, Rachel, and this irritates Cherry to no end. As a result, she's been doing more and more to try and attract attention, but it doesn't seem to be working out for her. | |
| Todd Browne | Dan G. | "Brown Todd", as the locals call him, used to be someone important. Or at least that is what he insists on telling everyone. These days he spends most of his time going through scrap piles looking for recyclables, or bugging visitors for a spare fraction of a platinum. Brown Todd may not be the most influential man in the Docks, but he is certainly one of the most omnipresent. | |
| Crew of the Downward Spiral | |||
| Captain Samuel Marshall | Jay W. | Samuel Marshall came from a good Core World family, and was a decorated officer, so it was a surprise to all when he was court marshaled and accused of treason. It was only through luck and connections in high places that he avoided execution. He has been reduced to captaining a beat up old boat called the Downward Spiral, and is in town delivering cargo. | |
| Jack | Mary | Jack is the second mate on the ship The Downward Spiral. She earns her living as a thug and gunslinger loyal to the captain and crew. Jack is known reasonably well in the underworld and smuggling communities. She's a thug, a drunk, and a violent gunslinger. She has been a smuggler for several years and is well connected. | |
| Seth | Rob M | Born a street kid, Seth once stowed away on the Downward Spiral and is now the boat's engineer. Not so good with girls. | |
| Clint Clay Dalton | Trent Y | A former low level officer in the military, Clint was drummed out of the service and given a dishonorable discharge. A notorious gambler, Clint serves as the 2nd in command on the Downward Spiral, for Captain Samuel Marshall. | |
| Xiaoli | Steph H. | Xiaoli used to be a Shepherd until the small settlement in which she lived was destroyed by desperadoes. Now she is aboard the Downward Spiral and acting as crew, though she seems to have a strained relationship with the Spiral's captain. | |
| Sarah M. | Jordan G. | The Downward Spiral's medic and the Cap'ns little sister. | |
| Crew of the Harmonious Ascent | |||
| Captain Butch Grant | Layne | A rough n' tumble ship's captain who is rumoured to deal on the shady side of the law. Word is that he fought in an elite unit during the Unification War, though no one seems to be sure whether he fought for the Alliance or the Independents. Captain of the transport Harmonious Ascent, here to both drop off some passengers and deliver some industrial chemicals to Deep Earth Paquin Co. | |
| Gregory Thompson | Rob S | Greg was hired about the Harmonious Ascent as a pilot near a year ago, after the last hunk of junk he was flying ended up in the spare parts heap. The Harmonious Ascent isn't the most fun ship in the world to fly, but at least it does indeed fly, and that's enough to keep Greg content for the moment. | |
| A crew of refugees | |||
| Tomisina "Tom" Jackson | Alina | Tom spent most of the Unification War in the brig, and she now seems to make a living as hired muscle. No one is quite sure whether she fought for the Independents or the Alliance, though it doesn't defy belief that she could have gotten kicked out of both armies in turn. | |
| Cam Trevor | Carla K | A castaway on Paquin, Cam's spent the past while working on the Bayne ranch and getting her life into some semblance of order. She's clearly used to be in charge, and has an independent spirit. | |
| Juri Korfa-Asad | Cory Penno | Juri's somewhat cold demeanor comes as a contrast to his more colorful friends Cam and Tom, and those dealing with him are usually left with the impression he knows a lot more than he is sharing. He describes himself as an accountant, but only the naive believe that is where his skills end. | |
| Crew of the Meile Hao | |||
| Jade Doherty | Scotia B. | Jade fought briefly for the Browncoats during the Unification War, but has never been the type to stick with a losing side and went off the radar long before the war's end. She's largely put her Browncoat past behind her now, and captains a small but quite respectable courier and passanger ship that makes runs between the Core and the closet Border Worlds. Her vessel, the Meile Hao, is her both dropping off some passengers attending the tournement, and delivering some packages to the local government. | |
| Kat Bradley | Kristina J. | Kat is Jade's navigator and pilot. She likes her Core luxuries, and complains when the air-conditioning in the cockpit isn't functioning correctly, nevermind when she has to spend an extended period of time on a dusty Border Planet. It is rumoured she actually grew up in a family of indentured servants on a Rim planet, who was freed when Alliance law managed to mostly stamp out the practice there. Certainly, her genteel manner has some gaps in it, and it might explain her obsession with creature comforts - she certainly wouldn't have had many growing up. | |
| Long Teng | Sarri L. | Long is the Meile Hao's cook and part-time concierge for the ship's occasionally demanding passengers. The strong and silent type, he doesn't usually speak much except to answer a passenger's request, and never talks about his past. This has led his crewmates to speculate he is a former organized crime assassin or MoI black ops commando or the like, but Long insists it is just because his past is extremely boring. | |
| Hasan Kanada | Chrstine V. | A farmboy from New Hall, Hasan was willing to do anything to see the stars - even sign on as grunt labour and gopher with a small pleasure craft. Jade doesn't think of the kid as very bright, but he's certainly eager. She also likes to pretend Hasan is the ship's muscle just in case, but the truth of the matter is even if the Meile Hao took on difficult passengers(it doesn't), Hasan doesn't have a violent bone in his body. | |
| Nakisha Smith | Ruby P. | The Meile Hao's mechanic, Nakisha is young but learning. She graduated from a technical school on Ariel, and knows how to get along well with more well-heeled passengers, even though she herself doesn't come from money. | |
| Crew of the Antelope | |||
| Liesje Frederiksen | Gayleen F. | Captain of a Firefly-class bulk freighter called the Antelope, Liesje is just trying to make ends meet. She has a good head for numbers, and makes a decent go of it as a merchant captain. She has a reputation for being straightforward and honest, which has occasionally led to folks trying to take advantage of her. It seems her main interest on Paquin is picking up the shipment of bulk ore she's been contracted to transport, but since loading up the ship will take the better part of the day, she can hardly object to enjoying the tournement and the associated excitement while she and her crew are here. | |
| Sean Rowan | Ryan S. | Sean is the business manager of The Antelope, and does his best to ensure his captain, Liesje, doesn't get screwed over on too many deals. He has a head for numbers and a quick wit, but that wit gets him into trouble as much as it gets him out of it. | |
| John T'an | Don R. | John finds his work hauling and loading materials aboard The Antelope to be easy work compared to his previous career working an asteroid mine. He drinks hard, works hard, plays hard, and enjoys his time off. | |
| Susie Williams | ***Available*** | Susie is the Antelope's mechanic. She is quiet, but doesn't suffer fools gladly and has quite the biting tongue when provoked. She is originally from Paquin, but doesn't seem terrifically concerned one way or another about stopping off home. | |
| Crew of the Zephyr | |||
| Jelena Quinn | Jacinta M. | A good friend of Captain Shaw's, this former Independent medic now serves as the Zephyr's physician. | |
| Cadance Shaw | Jennifer B. | Cadence is the Border-raised, Core-trained pilot of the Zephyr. She also happens to be the wife of that ship's captain. | |
| Rowynn Sparks | Kayte D. | Served with William in the war for a time, her specialty was as a sniper. She now serves as a hired gun for the Zephyr, and frequently the ship's cook as well. | |
| Marcus Paulson | Manuel Z. | Marcus grew up in Persephone in a lower middle class family with not many options for himself. It was either blue collar job or alliance. Feeling that he was cut out for more in life he decided to travel with William Shaw to gain experience, adventure and hopefully make a name for himself to separate himself from his unexceptional roots. | |
| Riley Fletcher | Melissa B. | A young but deathly serious woman, Riley is the Zephyr's medic. She started life in the mining trade, working with heavy explosives, a skillset that still gets a surprising amount of use on occassion. | |
| William Shaw | Meric M. | Will fought for the Independents during the Unification war, but appears to be trying to put his past behind him now as he captains the Zephyr. Captain Shaw still doesn't seem to much like the Alliance however, and the Zephyr is known by some to ride on the wrong side of the law. | |
| Thomas Hui | Timothy L. | Of Asian descent, speaks in broken English out of choice rather than a lack of mastery. The skilled mechanic of the Zephyr, Thomas doesn't suffers fools lightly and is very abrasive. | |
| Crew of Deliverty | |||
| Sandy Parsons | Possibly Taken | Captain Parsons doesn't perhaps have the best reputation in the world - he goes through crew at an alarming rate, and Delivery is his third ship, the previous two having been lost to misadventure. It isn't that he is an incompetant captain or pilot - far from it. He was a good flyer for an asteroid mining company before he absconded with a company ship during the Unification War. He's just a very, very stubborn man, and he will get a job done - if it means risking his ship or getting some of his crew killed, so be it. Coincidentally, he's on Paquin because his ship is in need of repairs and he is short crew - interest in signing on? . | |
| Lakendra Cramer | ***Available*** | Delivery's mechanic, Lakendra has been flying with Captain Parsons almost since Parsons originally started freelancing. Lakendra keeps her head down and focuses her energies on keeping Parsons' ship of the week flying. She supposedly learned her trade working as an indentured servant on an Independent planet before the war, and doesn't hide her distrust of idealists and authority figures of any political stripe. | |
| Brice Cai | ***Available*** | Brice has been around a lot of ships - Alliance, Independent, commercial, millitary, pleasurecraft, you name it - and has managed to become passably competent at a bunch of related trades without really ever becoming good at any of them. He made the mistake of signing on with Captain Parsons a couple of planets back because Parsons didn't seem to care what side Brice had fought for back in the war, but after having seen one of his fellow hires left stranded on a Rim world after angering the locals, and another catch a bullet when bandits tried to rob Delivery, he's starting to have second thoughts about his current employment. | |
| Other Visitors | |||
| Irenka Niska | Laura S. | A young relative of the infamous Adelei Niska, who nonetheless claims to not be attached to any of her uncle's alleged criminal activities. Just here on business. But, then, who would believe her? | |
| Antoni Kanai | Wayne S. | Brawler and toughguy, Antoni has more than his share of scars, but one can be sure his opponents were still on the worst end of it. He's got a long criminal record, and Paquin is one of the first times he's set foot on solid ground after a few years in a penal asteroid mining facility. | |
| Charles Gaulin | Tony N. | A quiet, unassuming man transporting a package aboard the Miele Hao. He has discouraged his fellow passengers from inquiring too deeply about his business on Paquin. The fact that he has always been perfectly charming and pleasant does nothing to dispel his subtle aura of menace. | |
| Adrian Linna | Travis M. | An well-known agent of the Redderton Detective Agency, Linna and his men have supposedly been hired by the Governor to provide some extra security for the tournament. The official reason given is because the Governor would never think to spend public funds on security for a private event, no matter how notable, but others suspect he simply may not trust the law or the military. Redderton Detective Agency's reputation, on the other hand, is incorruptible. | |
| Kitty Wood | Colby B. | A softspoken former Browncoat, Kitty Wood works for the Redderton Detective Agency now. Her company has been called in as extra security, and Kitty is content to earn her paycheque putting herself in harm's way, as usual. | |
| Ewan Swift | Des B. | A friend of Leonard Torrington, Ewan doesn't come from nearly as much money, but has more than enough charm and wit to make up for it and fit in inside high society circle. More than any of his friends, he might be described as a "fop", and it was he who originally suggested the trip out to the Paquin Tournament. | |
| Leonard Torrington | ***Available*** | Leonard Torrington is of the Londinium Torringtons, a deeply connected family whose has notable members in both the government and industry. Leonard himself should probably be back in the Core, but he has developed a thirst for adventure and wants to experience the "dark side" of the Border worlds. The fact that his old school chum Finley Prince is unconscionably good at cards has given him an easy excuse to come to Paquin... | |
| Chelsea Torrington | Krista V. | Chelsea is Leonard's more stable younger sister. She normally wouldn't be the type to take a tour of the Border Planets and show up at semi-legal card tournaments, but she has to keep an eye on her brother and his friends somehow... Of course, despite her apparent disapproval, the fact that she usually comes along on these larks and seems to have just as much or more fun as her friends probably says something about her own temperament. | |
| Finley Price | Phil C. | Finley is a little bit more timid than the other society boys from the Core he travels with, but makes up for it with a fine eye for subtlety and a quick mind. His friend Leonard convinced him to come to Paquin to enter the tournament., as Finley has a seemingly natural affinity for games of chance. | |
| Hugh Fitzroy | Berkley S. | Fitzroy claims to be a businessman who is looking for prospects on Paquin, but the only business anyone has seen him doing is playing mahjong or poker in local taverns and bars. He's been kicking about on planet for a little over a year, and his welcome is starting to wear thing. | |
| Lilwani Rose | Claire M. | An accomplished Companion and a longtime friend of Lord Richard, who has been a consistent client through the years. She has arrived on Paquin aboard the Harmonious Ascent to attend Lord Richard's wedding and meet his new bride. | |
| Talan Jude | Daniel R. | Talan is a card shark with an itchy trigger finger. He loves to gamble, and loves to talk, but never really gets around to mentioning his past. | |
| James VanBueten | Ian P. | Softspoke, good with guns, polite and quietly forceful - this passenger aboard the Zephyr doesn't talk very much about himself, and seems to have a very frosty relationship with the ship's captain. | |
| Abilene Dahl | Kristen B. | Another passenger aboard the Zephyr, this charming woman talks quite a bit more about herself than most of her fellow passengers. Apparently returning home to collect on an inheritance, she is a very social woman who enjoys the company of men. | |
| Kal Wells | Todd M. | An agent for the Blue Sun Corporation, which has business interests in Paquin and a minority interest in the Deep Earth Paquin Co. He has been permanently posted to the planet to help manage Blue Sun's interests here. | |
| Lady Roxanne Costas | Marie M. | A society lady from the Border World of Persephone, Lady Roxanne's pleasantly coy demeanor and willingness to play the damsel has made her a killer at cards. To be fair, she isn't an experienced traveller - she's been to the Core a few times, but otherwise her world has been limited to the peculiar Persephone aristocracy. It would be a mistake to assume that because of that she can be underestimated at the card table. She's booked passage to Paquin aboard the Meile Hao. | |
| Adam Fawkes | Gray M. | Adam managed to convince Lady Roxanne to pay his way to Paquin. Adam is a good card player, an excellent charmer, but dead broke. He doesn't quite know how he'll manage to front the money to enter the tournament., but he has to find a way - he owes money to some very unpleasant people, folks he is most unfortunately unable to charm. At this point, he really has no choice but to win. | |
| Sarruma Leonhardt | Lee | Witty and charming, no one is surprised when they find out Sarruma is a registered Companion. He is in town visiting, though who his client is, if he currently has one, isn't known publicly. | |
| Jesse Ledesma | Jim S. | Jesse is a Browncoat turned cowboy, and he works on the Bayne ranch far from civilization. He obviously likes it that way - being reminded of his side's defeat riles him out, and that generally isn't good for him. | |
| Monahan Beal | ***Available*** | Husband and wife visiting relatives on Paquin. | |
| Olivia Beal | ***Available*** | Husband and wife visiting relatives on Paquin. | |
| Madeline Salza | Jenn D. | Wife of Emory Salza - they run the general store over in Boomtown. Local gossip. | |
| Bruce Rayno | Jesse G. | Hotshot former Alliance pilot who now runs a one-man ship doing fast cargo runs. The man has an insufferable ego and a knack for getting into trouble, and it is even money on whether or not he's earned the confidence he has. | |
| Gill Tchotski | Peter S. | Taciturn except when he is making a sale, this travelling salesman that has been moving town to town across Paquin for the past several months. He no doubt expects there are plenty of potential customers at a gathering this big. | |
| Rand Overton | Possibly Taken | A union organizer from one of the more civilized Border planets, Rand is planning to take his vacation out on the Rim. It is certainly off the beaten path, but how much more wild could it be than his day job? He's in Paquin looking for a ship willing to take him out to the Rim. | |
| Max Acton | Possibly Taken | Cortex icon Max Acton of Action Media is covering the gambling tournament. A larger than life personality, it is often said if the event he is covering isn't exciting, he'll remedy that problem. | |
| Lady Selene Montrove | Cindy G. | An aristocrat from the Border world of Persephone, Lady Selene is on the hunt - her fiancee has taken off, and last word she had was he was headed to Paquin with a crew of his friends. | |
| Slade Chassen | Mike L. | He just landed today. A quiet man with a quiet but disturbing way about | |
| Penelope "Penny" Gershwin | Cristeen | Gregarious and generous, at least to those whom she is eying up for recruitment, Penny is a talent scout for Miradori Entertainment. She'll tell you she is here just for entertainment's sake and to observe the tournament, but anyone who knows her knows she never stops looking for the next big thing. | |
| Shepherd Octavo Lex | Joshua L. | Shepherd Octavo has never been the settlin' down type, but instead spreads his holy word on his travels. He just touched down on Paquin, and seems determined to make his presence conspicious - perhaps he figures there'll be a touch too much sin at a gambling tournament held in a border world saloon. | |
| Cecille Riebau | Debbie D. | Cecille is one of the two professional dealers brought in for the tournament. She's completely unflappable and utterly incorruptible - this makes sense if the rumours of her working at high stakes games played by movers and shakers in organized crime are true. | |
| Maximillian Fortunado | Richard J. | Maximillian is the second of the professional dealers brought in to help run the tournament. He is extremely knowledgeable and quite suave, having worked for many years in an upscale casino on one of the wealthier border worlds. He clearly isn't used to the more frontier stylings of Paquin however, and has been observed to be a bit jumpy. | |
| Ginette Somers | ***Available*** | Perhaps one of the most recognizable faces on Paquin, Ginette is one of the stars of the traveling performance troupe Circle Bar None. Paquin is famous for its entertainments and carnivals, and Ginette and her troupe intend on leaving an impression on off planet visitors. | |
| Neil Chen-Fallow | ***Available*** | Another performer with the Circle Bar None troupe, Neil is rumoured to have come from a highly placed Core family, fled to the Border to join the circus, as it were. Most people are pretty convinced that the rumour is one made up by Neil himself to enhance his reputation, but none can dispute he brings a certain refinement to his troupe's performances. | |
| Heather Balfor | ***Available*** | The youngest attending member of the Circle Bar None traveling performance troupe, Heather's initial enthusiasm for show business seems to be waning in the face of long hours and low pay. Still, she is as stubborn as they come, and she'll be damned if she lets Ginette or Neil show her up. | |
| Aishe Behari | Mel | Aishe travels with her clan of fellow transients, but she seems more desirous of a normal life than most of them. Not that such desires prevent her from scamming the townies she comes across, but she has been known to blend in and occasionally fantasize about settling down. | |
| Vadoma Behari | Frances B. | One of a clan of rootless wanderers on Paquin, Vadoma does what she can to take care of her family. It isn't known if they're actually all related by blood or not, but Vadoma acts as they are anyway. Supposedly she has some skill as a fortune teller - there certainly isn't a lack of gullible rural types who are willing to pay for her services, at least. | |
| Abia Behari | Andrew B. | The combination of Paquin's support of traveling entertainers and its frontier nature produces its share of undesirables, according to some. Abia Behari and his little clan are a group of rootless wanderers who manage to get by on occassional money from entertaining and doing odd jobs, some begging, and many believe a lot of outright theft. They aren't usually welcome in most communities, but they can be entertaining...and there are rumours of curses of bad luck for those who would turn them away. |
